Quality Note

CR2 files contain 12–14 bits per channel of sensor data. The conversion decodes this to an 8-bit sRGB JPG. At 85% quality, the output looks virtually identical to what your camera’s built-in JPG engine would produce.

Frequently Asked Questions

Some data is lost when converting from 14-bit RAW to 8-bit JPG, but at 85% quality the difference is imperceptible for sharing and web use. For archival, keep your original CR2 files.
KoalaPic applies the camera’s white balance setting stored in the CR2 metadata. Other in-camera adjustments (Picture Style, etc.) are not applied since they’re proprietary to Canon’s software.
Yes! Upload up to 20 CR2 files at once using the batch converter. Each file is converted independently with the same quality settings.
