About KoalaPic
A free, privacy-first image converter for everyone.
Why KoalaPic exists
KoalaPic is an indie project built by a solo developer who got tired of sketchy image converter websites that:
- Upload your files to unknown servers
- Plaster ads and dark patterns everywhere
- Require accounts and email signups for basic functionality
- Keep your files indefinitely
KoalaPic was built to be the opposite: fast, free, private, and honest. Every file is automatically deleted after 1 hour. No accounts needed. No ads, ever. The converter works on the web, through Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp and Slack bots, and via a developer-friendly REST API.
Our principles
Privacy First
Your files are processed and deleted. We don't store, analyze, or train on your images. What you convert is your business.
Universally Accessible
Web interface, REST API, and bots for Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp and Slack — convert images wherever you already are, on any device.
Simple & Honest
No dark patterns, no forced signups, no premium upsells. Every feature is free. If that changes, you'll know upfront.

What KoalaPic is
KoalaPic is a free online image converter, compressor and editor run by one independent developer. It reads 21 image formats — including HEIC from iPhones, ten camera RAW families and PDF — and writes 11, through a website, a REST API and bots on Telegram, Discord, WhatsApp and Slack. There is no account, no paid tier, no advertising and no watermark, and every uploaded file is deleted one hour after conversion.
How it works and what it costs
- Free with no paid tier: every tool on the site, and the API, cost nothing and carry no watermark or resolution cap.
- Conversion runs on KoalaPic's own servers in the EU, using Pillow, libraw, ffmpeg and OpenCV. No third-party conversion service sees your file.
- Uploads and results are deleted automatically one hour after conversion, enforced by a cleanup task rather than a promise.
- No account is needed for anything on the website. An optional free API key raises the rate limit and adds conversion history.
- Nothing is used to train anything. Images are never analysed, profiled or retained beyond the hour.
Is KoalaPic really free, and how is it funded?
Yes, entirely, with no paid tier and no advertising. It is an independent project run by one developer and paid for out of pocket; the running costs are servers and bandwidth. If that ever has to change, it will be said plainly on this page rather than discovered at a paywall.
Is KoalaPic safe to use with private photos?
Uploads travel over HTTPS, are processed on KoalaPic's own EU servers, and both the upload and the result are deleted one hour after conversion by an automated task. No image is stored permanently, analysed, or used for training. Conversion needs no account, so there is nothing to link a file to a person.
Who builds KoalaPic?
One independent developer, not a company or a venture-funded startup. That is why there are no advertising trackers to reason about and no upsell path: the product does not need to convert you into anything.
Where are my images processed?
On servers in the European Union, operated by KoalaPic. No third-party conversion API is involved, so the file does not leave that infrastructure between upload and download.
The numbers are public too: see live conversion stats and the current service status.
Built with Django, Pillow, python-telegram-bot, discord.py.
