Convert GIF to WEBP — Smaller Animations
WEBP is the modern replacement for animated GIFs on the web. An animated WEBP can be 30-50% smaller than the equivalent GIF with better color depth and transparency. KoalaPic lets you preserve the animation or extract a single frame.

Why Convert GIF to WEBP?
Animated GIFs are popular but inefficient — they're limited to 256 colors and use decades-old compression. Animated WEBP supports millions of colors, smooth alpha transparency, and significantly smaller file sizes. Major platforms like Twitter, Discord, and Slack all support animated WEBP.
How to Convert GIF to WEBP
Upload your GIF (animated or static).
Choose 'Keep animation' to create an animated WEBP, or 'First frame' for a static image. KoalaPic preserves frame timings and loop count.
Download your WEBP file. Animated WEBPs are typically 30-50% smaller than the source GIF.
Quality Note
Animated GIF to animated WEBP is the only conversion path that preserves animation. All frame durations and the loop count are carried over. The quality improvement comes from WEBP's superior compression and full color support (16.7M vs 256 colors).
