KoalaPic accepts HEIC, HEIF, WEBP, AVIF, TIFF, BMP, SVG, GIF, PNG, JPG, PDF, and camera RAW files (CR2, CR3, NEF, ARW, DNG) as input — 20 formats total. You can convert to JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, HEIC, TIFF, GIF, BMP, SVG, PDF, or ICO — 11 output formats covering everything from next-gen web formats to print-ready TIFF to vector SVG.
Yes, completely. Every feature is free — batch conversion, API access, bot usage, resize, watermark, everything. No premium tier, no limits, no catch.
Your uploaded and converted files are automatically deleted after 1 hour. No exceptions. We don't store, analyze, or use your images for any other purpose. Once they're gone, they're gone.
No. The web converter and bots work without any signup. If you want API access, you'll need an API key, but the web tool is fully anonymous.
50 MB per file. You can upload up to 20 files at once for batch conversion.
Search for @KoalaPicBot on Telegram. Send it any image, and it will ask you what format you want. Tap a button, get your converted file. That's it.
Add KoalaPic to your Discord server using the invite link on our homepage. Then use the /convert slash command with an image attachment. Pick a format from the buttons that appear.
HEIC (High Efficiency Image Container) is the default photo format on iPhones and iPads since iOS 11. It produces smaller files than JPG with better quality, but many Windows apps, websites, and older software can't open it. KoalaPic converts HEIC to JPG or PNG so you can use your photos anywhere.
Yes. By default, KoalaPic extracts the first frame for static output (JPG, PNG). If you choose WEBP as the output format, you can preserve the animation — the animated GIF becomes an animated WEBP.
By default, KoalaPic keeps all metadata intact. You can choose to strip all EXIF data, or strip only GPS location data while keeping everything else (camera model, date, etc.). This is useful for privacy when sharing photos online.
Yes. KoalaPic has a REST API with Swagger documentation at /api/docs. You can convert images programmatically, check job status, and download results. The API accepts the same options as the web tool: format, quality, resize, EXIF handling, and watermark.
SVG (Scalable Vector Graphics) is a vector format used for logos, icons, and illustrations. Since it's resolution-independent, KoalaPic renders it to your specified pixel dimensions using cairosvg. You can control the output width, height, and DPI. SVG to PDF conversion is vector-to-vector, preserving scalability.
Yes. Choose ICO as the output format. KoalaPic automatically generates a multi-size ICO file containing 16x16, 32x32, 48x48, and 256x256 versions — everything you need for a website favicon.
KoalaPic plans to open-source its codebase. Check the About page for updates.
Yes! KoalaPic supports Canon CR2 and CR3, Nikon NEF, Sony ARW, and Adobe DNG RAW files. Upload your RAW file and convert it to any of our 11 output formats. The converter uses LibRaw to decode the sensor data with accurate camera white balance.
KoalaPic decodes the full sensor data from your RAW file with camera white balance applied and sRGB color output. The result is a high-quality image ready for sharing or editing. Use the quality slider to balance file size and visual quality for JPG and WEBP output.
Yes. KoalaPic supports AVIF and HEIC as output formats. AVIF offers excellent compression — smaller than JPEG at the same visual quality — and is supported by Chrome, Firefox, and Safari. HEIC is Apple's format, natively supported on iOS and macOS. Both use the quality slider for file size control.
Yes. KoalaPic uses vtracer to trace raster images into SVG vector paths. This works best for logos, icons, line art, and simple graphics. Photographs produce stylized, artistic results rather than exact reproductions. Choose polygon mode for photos or spline mode for illustrations.
Yes. Upload a PDF and KoalaPic renders each page to your chosen image format (JPG, PNG, WEBP, etc.). Multi-page PDFs produce one image per page, delivered as a ZIP download. You can specify a page range and rendering DPI (72–600).
The default is 150 DPI, which produces good quality images for screen viewing. Use 72 DPI for thumbnails or quick previews, 150–200 DPI for general use, and 300+ DPI for print-quality output. Higher DPI means larger files but sharper images.
KoalaPic validates files by their actual content (magic bytes), not just the file extension. If your file's internal format doesn't match its extension, or the format isn't one of our 20 supported input types, you'll see this error. Try renaming the file with the correct extension, or check our supported formats list (Q1 above).
KoalaPic accepts files up to 50 MB. If your file exceeds this limit, try compressing it first, cropping unnecessary areas, or reducing the resolution before uploading. For RAW photos, consider converting to TIFF or PNG in your photo editor first.
A corrupt file error means KoalaPic couldn't read the image data inside your file. This can happen if the file was partially downloaded, truncated during transfer, or damaged on disk. Try re-downloading the original file or opening it in another image editor to verify it's intact before uploading again.
Conversions have a processing time limit. Very large files, high-DPI PDF rendering, or complex SVG files can occasionally exceed this limit. Try reducing the file size, lowering the DPI setting, or converting to a simpler output format. Retrying often works if the server was temporarily busy.
Unexpected errors are usually temporary server issues. Click the retry button to try again — most transient errors resolve on a second attempt. If the error persists after retrying, the file itself may have an issue. Try a different file or contact us through the feedback form.
You can retry a failed conversion up to 2 times manually, for a total of 3 attempts including the original. KoalaPic also performs one automatic retry behind the scenes for transient errors like timeouts. If all retries fail, the issue is likely with the file itself rather than a temporary glitch.
Yes! Use our Crop tool to visually select a crop region. You can choose a free-form selection or lock to aspect ratios like 1:1, 4:3, or 16:9. After cropping, you can also change the output format and quality.
The crop tool supports all 20+ input formats that KoalaPic handles, including JPG, PNG, HEIC, RAW (CR2, NEF, ARW, DNG), AVIF, TIFF, and more. For formats your browser can't display (like HEIC and RAW), KoalaPic generates a preview server-side so you can still see and crop the image.
Yes! Use the Image Editor to rotate, flip, adjust brightness, contrast, saturation, sharpness, apply blur, and choose from 10 filter presets (grayscale, sepia, vintage, vivid, and more). You see a live CSS preview before saving — the final image is processed server-side with Pillow for accurate results.
The editor shows an approximate CSS preview in real time. When you save, the image is processed server-side using Pillow, which may produce slightly different results — especially for filters and sharpness. A notice on the editor page reminds you that the preview is approximate.
Yes! KoalaPic offers free AI-powered background removal using the U2-Net model. Upload any image on the Remove Background page and get a transparent PNG in seconds. You can also replace the background with a solid color. Background removal is also available as a checkbox in the converter.
PNG, WebP, and AVIF support transparency. If you choose JPG or BMP as the output format, the background will be replaced with white (or your chosen color) since these formats don't support alpha channels. For best results, use PNG as the output format when removing backgrounds.
